I hate to be the critical ass hole, but I fucking hate people who try to play the cute nerd act. Being a nerd use to be a bad and unpopular thing. And today’s culture associates anyone who doesnt party, isnt highly social, and has the slightest interest in video games as a nerd. And these phrases don’t really have anything to do with “being a nerd”. Here’s why:
1. Nerd’s arent all insomniacs. It’s retarded to assume that a person who is nerdy stays up all night writing fan fic and playing D&D. That hardly associates directly to being nerdy.
2. Reading makes you a nerd? Trying to force that idea is why reading is so unpopular these days. I hate that being educated is now associated with negative opinons.
3. I’m certain that if a child said that, you wouldn’t call him a nerd. Star Wars is often a nerd culture thing, but you have to keep in mind how many people pretend to be obsessed with star wars just to be “such a nerd lol”, yet don’t know the difference between Boba and Jango Fett.
4. Lets just stick with number 3 for this one too.
5. I think the idea that nerds are smart, witty, and sarcastic people is created solely to make nerd culture more appealing. Not all nerds have quick and clever statements like sheldon. Once upon a time, nerds were anti-social castaways.
6. Do you know how many people use the term noob now? It’s like people who use fail and owned, but hardly use the internet or play video games. We generally pick up popular phrases from our friends without questioning what it means. People just like to use words that are popular.
7. This one is far to common and easy to rant about these days. The “gurl gamer”. People have accepted gaming as a fairly universal and acceptable thing in this era. With the Kinect and Wii, gaming is family oriented. But the second a girl wants to play call of duty she’s a “gurl gamerrr” and she is so nerdy and lame and all the guys will want her now. The fact of the matter is, video games are as common as people who use the internet.
8. Really? Cause need connection to the internet makes you a total nerd. Or maybe you just need to use the internet. Especially since iPhones are so common and internet is just more convenient.
9. I’ll be honest, I don’t even get this one. The only thing that comes to find is the fact that actual CD’s are nearly extinct since digital format is the way of the future. So I guess that kind argues it right there?
And I dont think anyone relates tattoos, piercings, and plugs as nerdy.
^^^ Josh James ladies and gentlemen
FINALLY!!! I’ve been waiting for someone to say this without being blatantly rude, but this is exactly how I feel. Most real nerds are unattractive, smelly and anti-social. The few of us who exist and mingle within the realms of “normal” society are seen as creepy or weird. We’re the ones who you come to in class when you don’t want to do your own work or dump all of the work on in class projects.
Five years ago, this girl would have been Emo/Scene because of it’s popularity (hair piercings and tats give that away). ten years ago, she would have been goth or punk. Were it the early 90s, she’d be wearing plaid and smoking a joint while listening to Nirvana. In the 80s, she’d be snorting cocaine off of whatever surface was closest to her because it was popular. She would have been one of those early 70s pseudo-hippies that did more harm than good to the counter-culture. in the 60s, she would have swooned for every douchebag with a suit, a bad haircut and a guitar. in the 50s, she would have been married at 17 and pregnant with 5 kids (as well as being depressed and alcoholic.) in the 20s, she would have been a flapper.
TL;DR, She’s a “nerd” because it’s cool. she would have been anything if you told her it was cool. And it makes real nerds (moi) angry to see shit like this.
This entire thread makes me laugh so hard. Guys, didn’t you know I’m just a stupid hipster bitch trying to capitolize on nerdy shit? No. I was that kid in Jr. High that didn’t really have any friends, I was the weird ‘art girl’, I drew fantasy art in my notebooks and wore hand-me-down clothes from my big brothers (who were obsessed with Star Wars and LoTR) I had braces for way longer than was socially acceptable, glasses that weren’t custom fitted so they were crooked as shit on my face (my ears aren’t quite level) and I froze in social situations and didn’t hit puberty till I was 17. Highschool didn’t get much better for me, I got really into anime and was considered an ‘otaku’, went to conventions and cosplayed (got made fun of REALLY hard at school for that) I had no friends, sat in my graphic design classroom during lunchtime, struggled emotionally, and eventually dropped out of school.
Now here I am, a young adult that’s into RPGs, Science Fiction/Fantasy books, X-Men, Star Wars, and Comic art. My main is a Troll hunter dual spec’d for BM/MM. If you look closely my tattoos feature Wonder Woman and ASoIaF references. I got pro-activ, some custom fit glasses, and those braces finally came off, but because I don’t look like a ‘nerd’ I’m not even accepted by geeks. I am sitting here getting picked on by dorks.
I am not accepted in 21-year-old-girl community because we have no common interests.
I am not accepted in the tattoo industry because I’m not into metal music and motorcycles
And now I am not accepted by nerds/geeks because I’m covered in tattoos and made a light hearted video making fun of internet “nerds”.
Nerds/geeks/dorks complain about bullies and not being accepted but you guys are not any better at all.Idiot number 1 you need to look up the definitions of the following words: Satire, sarcasm, joke. Also you are correct that body modification has nothing to do with being a nerd so why the fuck did you bring that up? I don’t recall anything in the video or these gifs having to do with body modification.
Idiot number 2 thank you for actually saying that if you are attractive you can’t possibly be a nerd. I am sure all the kids still in high school and middle school getting their asses kicked or being emotionally bullied thank you for telling them even the future doesn’t get better.
To both idiots fuck off. Since when were you given the honor of deciding who is and who is not a nerd based on something on the internet? I loathe girls that pretend to be nerds, it makes the rest of us girls that are really nerds look like tools. That being said why do you automatically assume because someone is attractive, and has a sense of humor that they are faking it? Are you so insecure and is being the “biggest nerd” so important to you that you feel the need to bully people and put them down assuming their personality is not their own. Why don’t you check out her blog then decide whether she is faking it or not?
Since being the biggest and best nerd is so important to you YOU are in fact the hipsters that use nerd culture as a way to seem cool. Just like the assholes that totally fake it, the assholes that feel the need to put others down and prove they are better you are doing nothing but trying to be hip and the best. Maybe that’s the reason you are so damn insecure.
Pick on the people that are really pretending and stop turning on other nerds.
*edit* Not that her response wasn’t decent enough (it was) I am just also personally offended by this response because I’ve been there and sure I will in the future

once upon a time everyone got mad about shit that doesn’t matter
Love her with Jango’s Helm♥
I’m 34. So its impossible for me to see an attractive woman as a nerd. Different world to me. Nothing against attractive...
